Turnagain News kicks off INN NewsMatch Fundraiser

Today is a big day here at Turnagain News. It’s the kickoff of our NewsMatch campaign — our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Jon Scudder, Turnagain News publisher. “As a reader of the Turnagain News, you already know the value of our local and investigative coverage.”

NewsMatch begins Nov. 1 and runs through Dec. 31 and is supported by the Institute for Non-Profit News, matching individual donations. “Our goal is to raise at least $13,000 in individual donations to allow us to add a print edition of the Turnagain News,” he said. People can donate on the Turnagain News website or by making a tax-deductible donation in care of the Turnagain News through Girdwood Inc.

INN programs help these news organizations develop revenue and business models to support strong reporting, collaborate on editorial and business innovation, share services and advance the diverse leaders who are forging a new future for news.

"This is essential work, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of local readers like you.

Thanks to our NewsMatch campaign, we have an opportunity to make your donations go even further.” said Scudder. “This is a movement of tremendous growth for the future trajectory of journalism in Turnagain Arm.”

According to INN, their vision is a news network that brings all people in every community access to trusted news. Stories that would otherwise go untold—connecting communities, holding accountable, and strengthening democracy. There are more than 425 INN affiliated newspapers across the US.

"We are so grateful for your existing support and the community support that has enabled us to do what we have accomplished already. Contributions from individuals and civic groups—Girdwood Lions Club, Girdwood Rotary Club as a couple examples. “It is essential for our NewsMatch campaign to have a strong start and help keep Turnagain News going in 2024 and beyond,” he added.

“Our editorial writers work tirelessly to produce journalism that you can count on,” he added. “We are not like other publications who accept large amounts of funds from outside businesses which has the potential to influence editorial content—we are adamantly independent!”
